I Love Holy Saturday

Being the Beloved - A Monthly Blog from CFDM Northwest

By Rev Stan Jacobson, CFDM Board

I love Holy Saturday.  What am I writing about? Holy Saturday? Holy Saturday is the day between Good Friday and Easter morning, and I love that day. Why in the world am I thinking about Passion Week when it is only the month of September? Let me tell you.

Holy Saturday is the day after the Crucifixion and the day before the Resurrection. We are a people of both crucifixion and resurrection. We are a people of paradox, of waiting and yet of working, of hoping and yet of active involvement. For me, Holy Saturday is a day of waiting and watching and working!

We live in a time of world-wide pandemic. We live in a time of political, social and racial unrest. This is our Holy Saturday and yet our waiting and hoping is not for an end of the pandemic or an end of unrest and racial violence.

We wait for God; we watch for God.

We do not wait as people who are passive and doing nothing.

We wait and we watch to see where our living God is currently active in the lives of people, in the world’s turmoil, and then we seek to get involved.

We wait and we work, simultaneously, for this is what it means to be people of Holy Saturday.
